Mac OS X 10.10.4 adds TRIM support for third-party SSDs

<p>Yesterday, Apple released Mac OS X 10.10.4, providing a number of bug fixes and subtle improvements to the currently shipping version of the desktop operating system. According to Ars Technica, one of those improvements is the <a target="_blank" href="http://arstechnica.com/apple/2015/06/latest-os-x-update-allows-you-to-enable-trim-for-third-party-ssds/" rel="noopener noreferrer">addition of support for TRIM on third-party solid state drives (SSDs)</a>. </p>

How to request a song on Beats 1 (Updated)

<p style="margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px">Certain shows on Apple's Beats 1 will accept requests from listeners. You can submit a request into one of three ways. </p><p>First, pick up the phone. That's totally old school, but so is listening to the radio. Just point your browser to <a target="_blank" href="http://beats1radio.com/requests" rel="noopener noreferrer"><span style="font-size:0px">http://</span>beats1radio.com/requests<span style="font-size:0px"> </span></a> to find a list of numbers for customers in 13 countries, including the US, Canada, France, Japan and Germany.</p>

Listen to Beats 1 on your Apple TV

<p><a href="http://apple.com/music">Apple Music</a> is live and ready. You can tune into Apple's 24 hour radio station, <a href="http://apple.com/music/radio">Beats 1</a>, on your iOS device or Mac running iTunes 12.2. That's great, but some customers have their premium sound system connected to their home entertainment system, including the Apple TV. Fortunately, it's easy to listen to Beats 1 via Apple TV. </p>

Eddy Cue, Jimmy Iovine and Trent Reznor talk Apple Music

<p style="margin-left:0px; margin-right:0px"><a href="http://apple.com/music">Apple Music</a> launches later today, along with <a href="http://www.apple.com/music/radio/">Beats 1</a> and updates to iOS and iTunes. It's a massive undertaking for the company that redefined the music industry with the original iPod in 2001  and iTunes Music Store in 2003. Now positioned to do it again with a streaming service and global radio station, Apple is coming off of two less-than-successful music projects.</p><p><a href="http://www.theverge.com/2012/10/1/3439168/ping-apple-music-social-network-closed">The music-focused social network Ping never caught on and was closed in 2012</a>. More recently, iTunes Radio failed to capture an audience like that of music streaming rival Spotify. What's different this time around? Apple's Eddy Cue, Jimmy Iovine and Trent Reznor gave interviews this week that answer that very question. </p>

AWT Health Club: Ahoy there, mateys!

<p>This is my first Health Club post for a while. Between some family issues and then going on vacation, it’s been difficult to get the time to write about health-related apps and topics. I’m currently on a cruise, which is usually considered the antithesis of a healthy vacation. We have a few days at sea (I’m currently between Greenland and Iceland…) so it’s the perfect time to talk about staying healthy while traveling.</p>

AWT News Update: April 20, 2015

iOS 8.4 launches at 8 AM PT on 6/30, Beats 1 an hour later

<p>Eric Slivka at MacRumors notes that <a target="_blank" href="http://www.fistfulayen.com/blog/2015/06/apple-music-and-beats-1-launch-tuesday-june-30th/" rel="noopener noreferrer">Apple Music senior director Ian Rogers made a revealing blog post this weekend</a>, announcing the launch times for iOS 8.4 and the Beats 1 "radio station" on Tuesday, June 30. iOS 8.4 is expected to show up at 8 AM PT, with Beats 1 going live an hour later at 9 AM PT.</p>
