RAVPower Ace Series 22000mAh Battery Pack and Unity L Lightning Cables: A powerful duo

Here at Apple World Today we review a lot of external battery packs and even more Lightning cables. Some are good, some not so good. There's one company that has continually made charging products that are noticeably better than the rest, and that's RAVPower. Today we're looking at two new products that are definitely best in class: the RAVPower Ace Series 22000mAh External Battery Pack ($39.99) and the Unity L Lightning Cable 2-Pack ($16.99).

Hands-on with the Western Digital MyPassport Ultra 4TB USB 3.0 Hard Drive

I love how life works out sometimes; last week, I ran out of room on my old 2TB backup drive and at almost the same time, Dennis wrote a post about Western Digital updating its line of inexpensive USB 3.0 hard drives with capacities up to 4TB. When I saw the price ($139.99 introductory sale) I ordered one immediately, and now I've had a chance to test it out. While there are some limitations that are Mac firmware-related in terms of using the Western Digital MyPassport Ultra as one big honkin' drive, there's a lot to like about this product.

iPhone batteries: A cautionary tale

Late last week, Mrs. Sande (my wife, not my mom) pointed out to me that her iPhone 5s screen was popping out. What she meant by popping out was that the screen was being pushed out in areas by something and was literally bulging above the top of the display. Knowing her charging habits for that iPhone, I immediately knew what was happening. This image from mommytasking shows a really bad case of the bulges:

A fond video look at the 2007 iPhone launch

Back on this day in 2007, I spent pretty much all day waiting in line to get one of the first iPhones. Now, there were problems getting the devices -- which were only on the AT&T/Cingular network at first -- activated, but that was OK. My wife and I had tickets to go see another Steve Jobs-influenced product that day (Disney/Pixar's Ratatouille), so I waited somewhat patiently until the 30th to get my iPhone up and running.

How to become a Maestro of your Mac keyboard

The good ol’ OS X Dictionary defines maestro as, “a great performer, especially a musician.” While Keyboard Maestro isn’t a musician, it’s definitely a great performer when it comes to saving time and effort. In fact, I’d be hard-pressed to name another app that saves me as much time or as many keystrokes every day as Keyboard Maestro.

What if you could make a $200 - $250 investment that could pay itself back in a few years? I made that investment two years ago with the Rachio Smart Sprinkler Controller, and it's saved me money on expensive and scarce water for irrigating my lawn and garden. Rachio is now shipping the second generation of the device, which adds to the utility of this water-saving smart controller.

Space Black is the new Dark Blue: Another rumor gone bad

Don't know about you, but I think the rumors about the upcoming iPhone 7 are getting out of hand. Just last week we heard that from the Japanese blog Macotakara that Apple was going to be making a "Deep Blue" version of the next-generation smartphone. Now they've backtracked, telling AppleInsider that it's just a "much darker" version of space gray that is "close to black, though not quite black."
