Vintage Apples: 3 videos show top games from Mac Performa series, iMac G3 and Apple Pippin

"applemctom" on YouTube is fond of vintage Macs and the games that ran on them. Although these games look crude in comparison to what we're used to now, they represent some of the best games and educational apps that ran on the Macs of a bygone era. In the three short videos following, you'll see retro gaming on the Apple Macintosh Performa series (1992 - 1997), the iMac G3 (1998), and the short-lived Apple Pippin gaming console (1996-1997). Enjoy!

How Apple earbuds were influenced by Star Wars Stormtroopers

Here's a fun bit of design trivia for you. The Wall Street Journal published a big article on Apple chief designer Jony Ive's touches on the soon-to-be-opened Apple Park today, but that's not the key piece of the article in my opinion. The fascinating bit? Apple's white plastic earbuds that came with the original iPod and have since morphed into the EarPods and AirPods we know so well were influenced by none other than the sparkling white body armor of Star Wars Stormtroopers.

USB 3.0 Promoter Group touts new USB 3.2 spec

USB just keeps getting faster and faster, with the USB 3.0 Promoter Group -- of which Apple is a member -- announcing the upcoming release of the USB 3.2 specification yesterday. It's considered an "incremental update" to USB 3.1, but it's an important one -- it defines multi-lane operation for USB 3.2 hosts and devices, meaning that devices can allow for two lanes of 5 Gbps (gigabit per second) data transfer or two lanes of 10 Gbps transfer.

Moshi Integra Lightning Cable could be the last cable you’ll need to buy

Charging cables are usually pretty unimpressive; I mean, how much can you say about a cable that runs from a USB port or AC adapter to a Lightning port? Well, accessory manufacturer Moshi has come out with a cable that's so well-built it may very well be the last charging cable you'll need to buy (unless Apple decides to switch to USB-C for iOS devices...). The $24.95 Integra USB-A to Lightning Charging Cable might not be the cheapest cable on the market, but it's designed to last.
