<p>Apple’s universal search feature for the fourth-generation Apple TV <a target="_blank" href="https://9to5mac.com/2017/10/17/apple-search-tv/" rel="noopener noreferrer">now supports:</a> BBC America (US); Classix (US, Australia, Canada); Oxygen (US); 9Now (Australia); Apple Music (UK, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, Spain, Mexico, Norway, Sweden); SBS (Australia); tenplay (Australia); CBC (Canada); FX Now (Canada); Tou.TV (Canada); Treehouse (Canada); Hopster (France); OCS (France); C More (Norway, Sweden); Viaplay (Norway, Sweden).</p>

<p>Other World Computing (OWC) has announced new <a target="_blank" href="https://www.owcdigital.com/products/aura-pro-x" rel="noopener noreferrer">Aura Pro X SSDs</a>, integrating the latest NVME, 3D MLC, and SLC NAND for data performance of up to 1600MB/s with exceptional power efficiencies. They work with most 2013 and later Macs.</p>

<p>WaterField Designs has announced the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.sfbags.com/products/ranger-iphone-x-case" rel="noopener noreferrer">Ranger iPhone X case</a>, a modern take on the traditional holster. With magnetic closing systems that use Neodymium rare-earth magnets, it attaches securely to clothing, belts, work vests or straps.  </p>

<p><a target="_blank" href="http://www.flashphoner.com" rel="noopener noreferrer">Flashphoner</a>, a developer of streaming video systems, has released an update of its Web Call Server 5 media server to work with Safari 11 on iOS and macOS High Sierra. </p>

<p>Future iPhones and iPads may have small displays on their sides in addition to the main display. And Apple Watch bands could also offer additional display info.</p>

<p>The <a target="_blank" href="http://www.greenpeace.org/greenerguide" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>2017 Guide to Greener Electronics</em></a> was released today by Greenpeace USA, with rankings of 17 of the world's leading consumer electronics companies on sustainable manufacturing and design of IT products. Apple received a B-.</p>

<p>Yesterday <a target="_blank" href="https://appleworld.dreamhosters.com/blog/2017/10/16/only-47000-iphone-xs-reportedly-produced-in-the-first-batch-from-foxconn" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>DigiTimes</em> </a>claimed that Apple manufacturer Foxconn has begun shipping iPhone X devices out of China, but the first batch “only” totals around 47,000. Foxconn has ramped up its iPhone X output from 100,000 to 400,000 per week, but supply still lags behind demand, the article adds. </p>

<p>Hey, Apple, I’m awaiting a Magic Keyboard with backlighting and a Touch Bar for use with my iMac. While I’m waiting, the <a target="_blank" href="http://www.kanex.com/multisync-mini-mac-keyboard" rel="noopener noreferrer">Kanex MultiSync Premium Slim Keyboard for Mac & iOS</a> will do, at least for the backlighting part.</p>

<p>With macOS High Sierra, Safari now stops auto-play for video with sound, so you can browse the web without annoying audio “pop-ups.” When you’re ready to watch, click the play button. </p>

<p>Apple was in talks for months to buy <a target="_blank" href="http://www.crossoverhealth.com" rel="noopener noreferrer">Crossover Health</a>, but those talks fell through, claims <a target="_blank" href="https://www.cnbc.com/2017/10/16/apple-considered-acquisition-of-crossover-health-part-of-health-push.html" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>CNBC</em></a>, quoting three “sources familiar with the matter.” The article says it’s not clear if Apple wanted to own and operate a network of health clinics, like its retail stores, or simply partner to sell products with a health-related angle, like the Apple Watch.</p>

<p>A new report from the In-vehicle UX (IVX) group at <a target="_blank" href="http://www.strategyanalytics.com" rel="noopener noreferrer">Strategy Analytics</a>, “Consumer Interest for In-Car Smartphone Mirroring is Almost Universal,” surveying consumers in the U.S., Western Europe and China, has found that an increasing number of consumers feel that smartphone mirroring systems such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Baidu CarLife will be a "must-have" when purchasing their next vehicle and moreover, are willing to pay for them at almost any reasonable price point.</p>

<p>GBH Insights <a target="_blank" href="https://www.cnbc.com/2017/10/16/this-series-of-new-iphones-will-be-apples-most-successful-ever-says-analyst-ives.html" rel="noopener noreferrer">analyst</a> Daniel Ives tells clients that he iPhone X could provide the “strongest iPhone product cycle to date.”  He says the upgrade cycle will push “well into fiscal year18” due to the device’s supply chain issues.</p>
