<p>Apple’s iMessage is apparently the the most-used messaging platform for U.S. teens, according to a comparative analysis by Fam CEO Giuseppe Stuto — as noted by <a target="_blank" href="http://www.businessinsider.com/apple-imessage-facebook-messenger-snapchat-2017-8" rel="noopener noreferrer">Business Insider</a>. Fam makes a video chat app that allows groups to chat with one another via iMessage with just a few taps.</p>
<p>As noted by <a target="_blank" href="https://www.macobserver.com" rel="noopener noreferrer">The Mac Observer</a>, Apple has launched a new<a target="_blank" href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/collection/safari-extensions/id29520?fcId=1093963857&ls=1&mt=12&uo=4&at=10l69J" rel="noopener noreferrer"> Safari Extensions section</a> on the Mac App Store Currently there are 27 Safari Extensions on the MAS, a mix of free and for-pay extensions.</p>
<p>Parallels has launched <a target="_blank" href="http://www.parallels.com/desktop" rel="noopener noreferrer">Parallels Desktop 13 for Mac</a>, which provides macOS High Sierra readiness and support for upcoming Windows 10 features. </p>
<p><a href="http://cts.businesswire.com/ct/CT?id=smartlink&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.drivesaversdatarecovery.com%2F&esheet=51672044&newsitemid=20170822005379&lan=en-US&anchor=DriveSavers&index=1&md5=e7b24e2aefa84842dd0f57eb8ae9178d">DriveSavers</a> — which specializes in data recovery, eDiscovery and digital forensics — says it’s ready to retrieve data stored on drives formatted with the new Apple File System (APFS), should users lose access to their drives during the beta test period or with the final release of macOS High Sierra.</p>
<p>FaceTec has released ZoOm, which it claims is the “first universal 3D facial authentication software solution.” The company says it works with iOS 8.3 and higher and Android 4.3 and higher. </p>
<p>VMware has announced new versions of VMware Fusion solutions that provide Windows virtualization on Mac. </p>
<p>Chronos has released Notelife for macOS and iOS. It’s a note manager that uses iCloud to sync notes across all of a user’s devices. </p>
<p>Apple’s online store has cut its AirPod shipment estimates to two to three weeks, the first time the estimate dropped below a month since the delayed launch in December.</p>
<p>Apple has been granted another patent (number 9,740,298) for gesture controls that involves ways to control a Mac, iOS device, even a TV with gestures. It also mentions 3D glasses, though it refers to them as a “wearable monitor.” </p>
<p>Apple has pushed back against Qualcomm’s bid to kill at least part of Apple’s suit accusing the chipmaker of demanding excessive royalties, saying that the company’s attempts to keep the court from taking a closer look at its patent portfolio are “astounding,” according to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.law360.com/technology/articles/956114/apple-says-qualcomm-s-evasion-of-patent-exam-astounding-?nl_pk=ade0cf2b-ea3f-464b-bc93-d8e19277ac63&utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=technology" rel="noopener noreferrer">Law360</a>.</p>
<p>If you don't need all the data that iStat Menus (2017/8/21/istat-menus-serves-up-all-the-stats-you-could-want-and-more-about-your-mac) provides, you may be happy with Stater. It's an $8.99 system-monitoring app for macOS (10.9 or later) that displays all information in one dock icon and a dock menu.</p>
<p>Last week there was a <a target="_blank" href="http://appleinsider.com/articles/17/08/16/questionable-blurry-pics-attempt-to-revive-rumors-of-a-60-inch-oled-apple-television" rel="noopener noreferrer">quickly dismissed rumor</a> that Apple was working on a 60-inch OLED Apple television. For years, it was anticipated that the tech giant would unveil an “iTV.” That’s probably not going to happen, but those rumors did make for some interesting speculation.</p>

<p>Don’t fall for this scam: con artists are calling people across the U.S. and Canada and claiming that their iCloud accounts have been hacked. As noted by the <a target="_blank" href="http://www.herald-dispatch.com/news/con-claims-that-apple-support-is-calling-you/article_c29eacbb-5774-5e00-9803-96e41668e6cf.html" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>Herald-Dispatch</em></a>, BBB Scam Tracker has received numerous reports of this scam in the past few weeks, and some targets say they've gotten 10 or more calls a day.</p>
