‘DigiTimes’: Apple will ship 4.5 million Apple Watches in the fourth quarter

<p>Quoting unnamed “sources in the supply chain,” <em><a target="_blank" href="http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20170817PD208.html" rel="noopener noreferrer">Digitimes</a></em> predicts that Apple will ship 4.5 million Apple Watches in the fourth quarter,  bringing the total number of units shipping in 2017 to 15 million. The suppliers expect Watch shipments to rise an additional 5 million next year for a total of 20 million.</p>

Apple patents hint at future plans for CarPlay and Maps

<p>Apple has been granted two patents that hint at future features of its CarPlay tech and Maps app. Compatible with iPhone 5 and later models, CarPlay provides a simplified way to use your iPhone interface on a car’s touch screen, giving users access to Siri voice controls, as well as Apple Maps, Apple Music, Phone, Messages, and a variety of third party apps.</p>

Lawsuit over Apple store workers’ unpaid time may be heading to the California Supreme Court

<p>A class action suit over Apple store workers' unpaid time spent in bag checks may soon be headed to the California Supreme Court, reports <a target="_blank" href="http://appleinsider.com/articles/17/08/17/lawsuit-over-apple-retail-workers-unpaid-bag-checks-may-go-to-california-supreme-court" rel="noopener noreferrer">AppleInsider</a>. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals the state's Supreme Court to decide whether bag checks are "compensable as 'hours worked' within the meaning of California Industrial Welfare Commission Wage Order No. 7," even when people could technically avoid the checks by leaving purses, backpacks, and other bags at home.</p>

Apple cuts off Apple Pay support for companies promoting hatred

<p>Apple has disabled Apple Pay support for a number of websites selling apparel and other paraphernalia emblazoned with Nazi symbols and white nationalist imagery following recent events and racial unrest in Charlottesville, Virginia, reports <a target="_blank" href="https://www.buzzfeed.com/ryanmac/apple-removes-payments-support-from-white-nationalist?utm_term=.swkEaJEMw#.sdLWvYWdk" rel="noopener noreferrer">BuzzFeed News</a>.</p>

Ireland to collect back taxes from Apple (reluctantly)

<p>The Irish government will <a target="_blank" href="http://www.reuters.com/article/eu-apple-tax-ireland-idUSA5N1IW02N" rel="noopener noreferrer">comply</a> with the EU ruling to collect <strong>€</strong>13B (about $14.5 billion) in back taxes from Apple, but isn’t happy about the prospect. The country worries about being held accountable for any depreciation on the money, which will go into an escrow account if the tech giant should win an appeal at some point and need a refund.</p>

According to the manufacturer, it’s designed to “eliminate the search for cables and chargers.” Mission accomplished. Alas, it doesn’t reduce cable clutter, although one big change could make that happen.</p>

Apple tops list of ‘brand affinity with millennials’

<p><a target="_blank" href="http://tcismith.pr-optout.com/Tracking.aspx?Data=HHL%3d837%2f%3a7-%3eLCE58451%40%26SDG%3c90%3a.&RE=MC&RI=4050748&Preview=False&DistributionActionID=74394&Action=Follow+Link" rel="noopener noreferrer">Moosylvania</a>, a brand building agency, has released its 2017 top “100 Millennial Brands” report, which averages 15,000 responses from 2013-2017 in categories include electronics, gadgets, gaming, soft drinks, clothing and cars. Apple took the top spot.</p>
