<p>Apple wants the fitness tracking abilities on your Apple Watch to be even more precise. The company has been granted a patent (9,459,118) for “adjusting step count to compensate for arm swing.”</p>

<p>Here we go again, part II: the FBI wants another iPhone unlocked. Special agent Rich Thorton said that the FBI has obtained the iPhone of Dahir Adan, who stabbed 10 people in a Minnesota mall before a police officer shot and killed him, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.wired.com/2016/10/fbi-wants-crack-another-dead-terrorists-locked-iphone/" rel="noopener noreferrer">reports WIRED</a>. </p>

<p>Here we go again: a federal appeals court has reinstated a $120 million jury award for Apple against Samsung. The full slate of judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C., said a previous panel of the same court should not have overturned the verdict in the case involving three iPhone technology patents last February.</p>

<p>Three mobile phone operators in India — AIS, Dtac, TrueMove — <a target="_blank" href="http://www.bangkokpost.com/business/telecom/1104720/iphone-7-to-be-available-oct-21" rel="noopener noreferrer">will begin selling</a> the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus on Oct 21. But they’re pricey.</p>

<p>Another day, another lawsuit. Developer and business service supplier <a target="_blank" href="http://www.challenges.fr/challenges-soir/exclusif-l-editeur-francais-de-logiciels-nexedi-assigne-apple-en-justice_431647" rel="noopener noreferrer">Nexendi is suing Apple</a> in French courts for “incomplete implementation of the HTML 5 specification in the iOS version of Safari,” according to <a target="_blank" href="http://appleinsider.com/articles/16/10/07/french-company-sues-apple-over-incomplete-html5-support-on-ios-macos-safari)" rel="noopener noreferrer">AppleInsider</a>.</p>

<p>Apple Music has gained support for user-uploaded unofficial remixes, <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2016/10/06/remixify/?ncid=rss">according</a> to <em>TechCrunch</em>, thanks to SoundCloud, a service that can offer support for unofficial remixes, and Dubset, a music rights management company.</p>

<p>On a regular basis, <em>Apple World Today</em> posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they're popular and deserve mention. Here are today's picks.</p>

<p>TECHnalysis Research recently surveyed 1,000 U.S. consumers who both own a car and are planning to purchase a new one within the next two years. The results — as noted by <a target="_blank" href="https://www.fastcompany.com/3063342/platform-wars/survey-says-yes-us-consumers-will-buy-cars-from-apple-and-google" rel="noopener noreferrer">Fast Company</a> — show that half of the respondents would give at “least moderate” consideration to purchasing a car from a tech company. </p>

<p><a target="_blank" href="http://www.gartner.com" rel="noopener noreferrer">Gartner. Inc</a>. expects a weaker year-over-year volume performance from Apple in 2016, as volumes stabilize after a very strong 2015. As a result, the research group expects total smartphone market to only increase 4.5% with premium smartphones declining 1.1%  in 2016. However, there is some good news.</p>

<p>More good news for cord cutters and would-be cord cutters: global media company Turner plans to launch FilmStruck, the company’s first domestic subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service, on Oct. 19. It will be exclusively on Amazon Fire TV, web, iOS and Android devices at launch, and on Apple TV and other platforms and devices in the coming months.</p>

<p>Staples, Inc., has announced the availability of Apple Pay on <a target="_blank" href="http://m.staples.com" rel="noopener noreferrer">its mobile website</a>. The company’s business customers have already been using Apple Pay for purchases within the Staples iPhone app and in Staples’ stores. </p>

<p>Apple fans have long complained about its online and cloud services. The company may be listening. <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-10-06/apple-is-said-to-plan-improved-cloud-services-by-unifying-teams" rel="noopener noreferrer">Bloomberg says</a> that the Cupertino, California-based company plans to unify its separate Internet services groups into a single campus to better compete with Alphabet Inc.’s Google and Amazon, Inc. in the cloud.</p>

<p>Apple has an eye on expanding its presence in the smart home market as evidenced by a newly granted patent (for “flexible room controls”). It involves human-machine interfaces, and particularly to user controls in a room or building. </p>
