Apple Music tops 30 million paid subscribers

<p>Apple Music exec Jimmy Iovine tells <em><a target="_blank" href="http://www.billboard.com/biz/articles/7981590/apple-musics-long-game-why-jimmy-iovine-thinks-theyre-not-even-close-to-success" rel="noopener noreferrer">Billboard</a></em> that the streaming music service now has “well over” 30 million paid subscribers. That’s up from the 27 million announced at the Worldwide Developer Conference in June. </p>

Toshiba signs a deal to sell its memory chip unit

<p>Toshiba has <a target="_blank" href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/toshiba-signs-deal-to-sell-chip-unit-to-bain-apple-group-1506581351" rel="noopener noreferrer">signed</a> a $17.7 billion deal to sell its memory chip unit to a consortium led by Bain Capital. Apple is among the companies included in the group.</p>

Apple looking to hire folks to handle ‘video partnerships’

<p>Apple is looking <a target="_blank" href="https://jobs.apple.com/us/search#&ss=Apple%20Video%20Partnerships&t=1&so=&lo=0*USA&pN=0&openJobId=113059126" rel="noopener noreferrer">to hire folks</a> to handle “Apple Video Partnerships.” Those hired will “take a primary role in engaging with Apple’s video partners and content distributors on initiatives that touch many parts of the Apple ecosystem.”</p>

Analyst: iPhone 8 and 8 Plus sales are off to a solid start

<p>In a note to clients — as noted by <a target="_blank" href="http://appleinsider.com/articles/17/09/27/kgi-iphone-8-sales-in-line-with-expectations-analysts-overplay-short-apple-store-lines" rel="noopener noreferrer">AppleInsider</a> — KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says that iPhone 8 and 8 Plus sales are off to a solid and stable start despite claims from analysts and media citing a lower than usual turnout at Apple store locations as evidence of decreased interest in the new lineup. </p>

Apple, other tech companies on FDA fast-track approval program

<p>The Food and Drug Administration, which oversees new drugs, medical devices and much of the U.S. food supply, has selected nine tech companies, including Apple, for a pilot program that may let them avoid some regulations that have tied up developers working on health software and products, according to <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-09-26/apple-fitbit-will-join-fda-program-meant-to-speed-health-tech"><em>Bloomberg</em></a>.</p>
