Another member of Apple’s Mac team leaves for Tesla

<p><a target="_blank" href="https://appleworld.dreamhosters.com/blog/2017/1/10/brainchild-behind-swift-leaving-apple?rq=Chris%20Later" rel="noopener noreferrer">Chris Lattner</a> isn’t the only Apple exec who departed for Tesla. <em><a target="_blank" href="https://9to5mac.com/2017/01/11/matt-casebolt-touchbar-macbook/" rel="noopener noreferrer">9to5Ma</a>c</em> has reports that Matt Casebolt, a “high profile” Senior Director of Design for Apple’s Mac lineup left the company in December for a role at Tesla as Sr. Director Engineering, Closures & Mechanisms.</p>

One of the leading figures behind Swift leaving Apple

<p>Apple employee Chris Lattner, the senior director of Apple's Developer Tools Department, <a href="https://lists.swift.org/pipermail/swift-evolution/Week-of-Mon-20170109/030063.html">shared</a> today that he’s leaving the company after more than a decade. He was the leading figure behind Apple’s Swift programming language.</p>

Apple: Consumer Reports MB Pro battery results were due to a hidden Safari setting

<p>As we <a target="_blank" href="https://appleworld.dreamhosters.com/blog/2016/12/23/2016-macbook-pros-first-ones-not-to-receive-recommended-ratings-from-consumer-reports" rel="noopener noreferrer">reported last month</a>, for the first time ever, <em>Consumer Report</em>s failed to recommend new models of Apple’s MacBook Pro line. The laptops did very well in measures of display quality and performance, but as far as battery life goes, <a href="http://www.consumerreports.org/laptops/macbook-pros-fail-to-earn-consumer-reports-recommendation/">models "varied dramatically"</a> from one trial to the next. However, Apple says the battery tests were inaccurate, as the publication had enabled a hidden setting in its Safari browser.</p>

Apple to make data center cabinets at former GT Advanced plant

Rumor: Apple and Carl Zeiss teaming up for lightweight VR/AR glasses

<p>Citing an unnamed “employee at Zeiss,” AR/VR evangelist Robert Scoble claims Apple is partnering with optics manufacturer Carl Zeiss on a pair of lightweight glasses, according to <a target="_blank" href="http://appleinsider.com/articles/17/01/09/rumor-apple-working-with-carl-zeiss-on-ar-glasses-to-debut-in-2018" rel="noopener noreferrer">AppleInsider</a>. Apple, India officials to meet Jan. 25 to discuss potential manufacturing deals

Apple was granted 2,102 patents in 2016

<p>IFI CLAIMS Patent Services, a producer of global patent databases and innovative web services, has announced the <a href="http://www.ificlaims.com/index.php?page=misc_top_50_2016">2016 IFI CLAIMS U.S. Top 50</a>, an annual ranking of top patent recipients. Apple increased the number of patents it received, but remains at #11 on the list.</p>

Happy birthday, iPhone; you’re 10 years old today

<p>Today (Jan.9) marks the tenth anniversary of the iPhone’s debut. At the 2007 Macworld Conference & Expo in San Francisco, then-CEO Steve Jobs introduced the world to Apple’s smartphone as three products in one — “a widescreen iPod with touch controls, a revolutionary mobile phone and a breakthrough internet communications device.” In the 10 years since, Apple has sold over a billion iPhones. </p>
