<p>The U.S. Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission are investigating whether Apple violated securities laws concerning its disclosures about a software update that slowed older iPhone models, reports <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-01-30/u-s-said-to-probe-apple-over-updates-that-slow-older-iphones-jd1yahj7"><em>Bloomberg</em>,</a> quoting unnamed “people familiar with the matter.”</p>

<p>Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet software and services, has been <a target="_blank" href="https://www.sxsw.com/news/2018/announcing-featured-speakers-eddy-cue-spike-lee-susan-wojcicki-sxsw-2018/" rel="noopener noreferrer">announced as a featured speaker</a> for 2018's South By Southwest (SXSW) conference, which will be held March 9-18 in Austin, Texas.</p>

<p><a target="_blank" href="https://appleworld.dreamhosters.com/blog/2018/1/30/apple-to-focus-on-security-stability-instead-of-new-features-in-ios-12" rel="noopener noreferrer">Apple's reported plans</a> to delay some features planned for iOS 12 until next year will also extend to the Mac, although to a lesser degree, according <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-01-30/apple-is-said-to-push-back-some-key-iphone-software-features" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>Bloomberg News</em></a>. </p>

<p>Apple has been granted a design patent (D808,965) for what looks like a new computer monitor. One of the complaints about previous Cinema and Thunderbolt displays, as well as iMacs, is that, while they can tilt, their height can’t be adjusted.</p>

<p>Apple has been granted a patent for a video headset that can change perspective based on a user’s movements. The patent (number 9,880,720) is for “adjusting media display win a personal display system based on perspective.”</p>

<p>The latest smartphone operating system data from <a target="_blank" href="http://www.kantarworldpanel.com" rel="noopener noreferrer">Kantar Worldpanel ComTech </a>shows that in the three months ending December 2017 iOS made an overall share gain of 0.7 percentage points to 24.8% across the big five European markets, despite market share falling by 2.4 percentage points in the UK.  </p>

<p>Apple has tweaked its iOS software plans for 2018, delaying some features to 2019 in an effort to put more focus on addressing performance and quality issues, according to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.axios.com/scoop-apple-delays-ios-features-to-focus-on-reliability-performance-1517278421-d7722a3b-402e-4804-8f24-719154bf2a8e.html" rel="noopener noreferrer">an <em>Axio </em>report</a>.</p>

<p>Speaking at NRF 2018 Retail's Big Show in New York earlier this month, Jennifer Bailey, vice president of Apple Pay, said the company’s mobile payment service is now accepted by two out of three U.S. stores, reports <a target="_blank" href="http://appleinsider.com/articles/18/01/30/apple-pay-accepted-at-1-out-of-2-us-stores-says-apple-vp-jennifer-bailey" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>AppleInsider</em></a>.</p>
