<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Apple has been granted a patent (number 10,055,897) for “systems, methods, and computer-readable media for placing an asset on a three-dimensional model.” It involves a head-mounted augmented reality/virtual reality headset: the rumored “Apple Glasses,” which are expected in 2020.</p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">On a regular basis, <em>Apple World Today</em> posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they're popular and deserve mention. Here are this week’s picks.</p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Apple may soon adopt a new power-saving backplane technology for iPhone displays for longer battery life, according to <a href="http://www.ihsmarkit.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">IHS Markit</a>. </p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">A <a href="http://www.slashleaks.com/l/alleged-10-5-inch-ipad-pro-2018-case-with-mysterious-new-cutout-on-the-back" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">reported “leak”</a> has popped up that purportedly shows a new case (pictured) for the upcoming iPad Pro models, with the internal shots of the plain case appearing to have a new cut-out on one side that could be used for a relocated Smart Connector. </p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;"><em>PCMag</em> <a href="https://www.pcmag.com/news/363269/why-do-people-switch-between-mobile-operating-systems" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">has conducted</a> a survey of 2,500 U.S. consumers to find out why folks switch between mobile operating systems — mainly, iOS and Android.</p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Fantom Drives’ new <a href="https://www.fantomdrives.com/gforce-typec-external-ssd" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">G-Force 3.1</a> is a high performance SSD that may well be the perfect external drive for use with the new MacBook Pros, especially for those doing intensive video work in apps like Final Cut Pro X.</p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Apple has filed for a patent (number 20180240447) for “dynamic music authoring.” It involves, well, a method for authoring music and likely involves current and future versions of GarageBand and Logic Pro X.</p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Jamf, which specializes in Apple device management, has announced a set of updates to its Apple device management solution for small and medium businesses, Jamf Now. Customers can immediately begin deploying packages on macOS devices, custom applications on iOS devices and leveraging restrictions to swiftly set up, manage and protect their Mac, iPhone, and iPad devices, according to Nick Amundsen, vice president, Jamf Now. </p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Twelve South has launched the <a href="https://www.twelvesouth.com/product/plugbug-duo?utm_source=twelvesouth.com+subscribers&utm_campaign=7ac7140464-PlugBug+Duo+-+Full+List&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_76703c9491-7ac7140464-59275963&mc_cid=7ac7140464&mc_eid=4cec9fbb29" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">PlugBug Duo</a>, a $49.99 device that snaps onto your Apple MacBook power adapter and adds two traditional USB charging ports. It allows you to charge your MacBook, headphones and battery pack from just one outlet. </p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Apple has introduced new ways customers can enjoy and support America’s national parks with an Apple Pay donation program and Apple Watch Activity Challenge.</p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">A rare Apple-1 computer, the first personal computer produced by Steve Jobs and Steve “Woz” Wozniak at the fledgling Apple Computer Company in Palo Alto, California, in 1976, is being offered for sale by RR Auction on <a href="http://www.invaluable.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Invaluable</a>, an online marketplace for fine art, antiques and collectibles.</p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Apple has been granted two patents involving the integration of its Maps app in CarPlay. Compatible with iPhone 5 and later models, CarPlay provides a simplified way to use your iPhone interface on a car’s touch screen, giving users access to Siri voice controls, as well as Apple Maps, Apple Music, Phone, Messages, and a variety of third party apps.</p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">New actions by the Australian government agency, Heritage Victoria, may delay or jeopardize Apple’s plans for a store in Federation Square. </p>
