Beijing court overturns ruling against Apple’s iPhone 6

<p>A Beijing court has overturned a 2016 ruling that Apple's iPhone 6 violated a Chinese manufacturer's patent, according to the <a target="_blank" href="http://www.scmp.com/news/china/policies-politics/article/2082127/china-win-apple-court-overturns-iphone-patent-ruling" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>South China Morning Post</em></a> (as noted by <em><a target="_blank" href="http://www.macrumors.com" rel="noopener noreferrer">MacRumors</a></em>). The court ruled that the features of the iPhone 6 "completely change[d] the effect of the entire product" and made both phones "easily distinguishable in the eyes of consumers."</p>

Apple talking with Hollywood about early movie access on iTunes

<p>Apple is “pressing” Hollywood studios for earlier access to movies, reports <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-12-07/apple-said-in-talks-with-film-studios-for-earlier-movie-rentals" rel="noopener noreferrer">Bloomberg</a>, quoting unnamed “people with knowledge of the matter.” If such a deal reaches fruition, first run movies might be available for rental on iTunes for $30.</p>

<p>Apple has applied for a patent (number 20170082649) dubbed “detecting controllers in vehicles using wearable devices” that would merge Apple Watch and CarPlay functionality. Compatible with iPhone 5 and later models, CarPlay provides a simplified way to use your iPhone interface on a car’s touch screen, giving users access to Siri voice controls, as well as Apple Maps, Apple Music, Phone, Messages, and a variety of third party apps.</p>
