Apple investigating iOS, macOS devices with retractable displays

<p>pple has been granted a patent (number 9,625,948) for “electronic devices with retractable displays” that hints at intriguing future iOS and macOS devices. If applied to Macs, the invention might bring more touchscreen features to the computer. Or it could be a new device altogether (an “electronic newspaper/magazine,” perhaps).</p>

Rumor: new iMacs — including a server-grade version — due in the second half of 2017

<p>Apple is expected to begin production of two new iMacs in May for an official launch in the second half of the year, according to <a target="_blank" href="http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20170412PD203.html" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>DigiTimes</em></a>, quoting unnamed “sources from Taiwan-based supply chain makers,” who add that a server-grade iMac for the high-end sector is also in the works.</p>

Apple, Unwired Planet settle out of court

<p>Unwired Planet has announced that it has settled its patent infringement suit with Apple, just as a California federal trial was set to begin, ending more than four years of litigation that Apple said was frivolous and Unwired said was worth an estimated $33 million. Details of the settlement haven’t been disclosed.</p>

At least two experts think Apple will be alive and thriving in 2075

Analyst: there’s a chance the ‘iPhone 8’ could ship without Touch ID

<p>This ain’t gonna happen, but in a note to clients — as noted by <a target="_blank" href="http://appleinsider.com/articles/17/04/17/analyst-speculates-apples-oled-iphone-8-could-ditch-embedded-fingerprint-sensor" rel="noopener noreferrer">AppleInsider</a> — Andy Hargreaves, an equity research analyst with Pacific Crest Securities, thinks there’s a possibility that the “iPhone 8” could ship without a fingerprint sensor of any kind.</p>

Rumor: tvOS 11 to add multi-user support, picture-in-picture

<p>The Apple TV will gain multi-user support and picture-in-picture with tvOS 11, the next major update of its operating system, according to Israeli site, <em>The Verifier</em> — as noted by <a target="_blank" href="http://appleinsider.com/articles/17/04/16/rumor-apple-tv-to-get-multi-user-support-picture-in-picture-with-tvos-11" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>AppleInsider</em>.</a> tvOS 11 will almost certainly be unveiled at June’s Apple Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC).</p>
