<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">A federal judge in Australia says that $9 million penalty imposed on Apple for deceiving Australian customers is “loose change” and unlikely to deter future misconduct, reports <a href="https://www.smh.com.au/business/consumer-affairs/loose-change-judge-suggests-apple-could-recoup-9m-penalty-in-minutes-20180719-p4zset.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>The Sydney Morning Herald</em></a>.</p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Apple doesn’t want you to get sunburned. And a new patent filing (number 20180202927) by the tech giant shows how it plans for its smartwatch to be used to prevent just that.</p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Tom Gruber, one of the original Siri co-founders, has departed Apple, where he was recently the head of Siri’s Advanced Development group, according to <a href="https://www.theinformation.com/articles/siris-last-remaining-cofounder-is-out-at-apple" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>The Information</em></a>. The company’s head of search, Vipul Ved Prakash, has also left the tech giant.</p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Another day, another lawsuit. Singapore Asahi Chemical & Solder Industries PTE has brought suit in Ohio, alleging that Apple infringed on its solder patent in the manufacturing of several different iPhones. </p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">In a 2015 <em>Seeking Alpha</em> article, analyst J.M. Manness said that Apple could conceivably move to the number two or even number one spot in the personal computer manufacturing list. I think his points are still valid.</p>

This makes it a prime candidate for use in future iPhones and perhaps iPads.</p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">The data belonging to China-based iCloud users which includes emails and text messages, is now being stored by a division of China Telecom, the state-owned telco, reports <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2018/07/17/apples-icloud-user-data-in-china-is-now-handled-by-a-state-owned-mobile-operator/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>TechCrunch</em></a>.</p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Apple has been granted a patent (number 10,024,876) for “pedestrian velocity estimation.” It involves the tech that allows your Apple Watch to tell you how fast you’re moving.</p>
