<p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">New research by <a href="https://c212.net/c/link/?t=0&l=en&o=2619664-1&h=2887721879&u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.grailinsights.com%2F&a=Grail+Insights" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Grail Insights</a> suggests that while "Break Up Big Tech" is a red hot political topic, consumers don't agree. The strategic insights consultancy conducted a survey of 1,000 U.S. consumers to find out how people feel about some of the practices and behaviors of six tech giants: Apple, Facebook, Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Uber.</p>

<p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">After a week of sales of its latest iPhone models, data from the <a href="https://www.kantarworldpanel.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Kantar research group </a>shows that Apple’s iOS accounts for 18.9% of all smartphone sales across the five major European markets (EU5), with new launches helping it to see positive year-on-year growth across all five major European markets. </p>

<p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">For the first time, a generic mobile payment app is more popular than the Starbucks mobile app, which had long led the category despite being specific to one retailer. Apple Pay became the market leader last year, when 27.7 million Americans used the app to make a purchase, according to <a href="https://www.emarketer.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">eMarketer.</a>   </p>

<p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">Apple has filed for a patent (number 10,453,267) for a “method for representing virtual information in a view of a real environment.” It’s one of several patent filings that hint at features of the anticipated “Apple Glasses,” an augmented reality/virtual reality head-mounted display.</p>

<p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">Let the Apple Car rumors roll on. Apple has been granted a patent (number 10,451,425) for an “autonomous navigation system.” It’s one of dozens of patents the company has filed for, or been granted, for a self-driving vehicle.</p>

<p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">Future Animoji’s and Memoji could be generated from your photo, according to a new patent (number 10,452,896) from Apple. <p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">Apple CEO Tim Cook has been named chairman of the advisory board of the Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management (SEM). The news of his appointment <a href="http://www.sem.tsinghua.edu.cn/news/xyywcn/19038.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">was shared</a> in a recap of the 2019 meeting of the board, which is the 20th annual meeting since the committee was established. (The announcement is in Chinese.)</p>

<p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">Apple has released another macOS Catalina Supplemental Update. According to Apple’s release note it includes installation and reliability improvements, and is recommended for all users. </p>

<p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">Apple and Cisco Systems have urged the U.S. Supreme Court to throw out SPIP Litigation Group’s petition claiming that the Federal Circuit wrongly offered no explanation when it upheld a lower court finding that the tech giants didn't infringe its internet voice-calling patents, according to <a href="http://law360.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">law360.com</a> (a subscription is required to read the entire article).</p>

The long-rumored 16-inch MacBook Pro is now in introduction and will be available by the end of the month, according to <a href="https://www.digitimes.com/news/a20191021PD205.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">DigiTimes</a>. </p>
