Apple News Items You Should Check out: Sept. 9

Since I can’t cover everything, I like to offer a daily round-up of must-read articles from some other great websites. To wit:

° From Reuters: Russia’s Trade and Industry Minister says that Apple’s latest flagship iPhones will be available to buy in the country thanks to its parallel imports scheme.

° From 9to5Mac: Geekbench results show how much faster the iPhone 14 Pro’s A16 chip really is.

° From MacRumors: Apple has discontinued the Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Dock. The dock, which retailed for $79, included a circular base and allowed Apple Watch users to charge their Apple Watch in either a flat position or on its side to be used as an alarm clock.

° From Macworld: The iPhone 14 offers the optional ability to play a sound when it starts up and shuts down.

° From The Mac Observer: An Apple press release has revealed that new features for the AirPods Pro 2 won’t see availability for Mac and iPad until October.

° From AppleInsider: Apple CEO Tim Cook has dissed the idea of iOS ever adopting RCS messaging.

° From Bloomberg: China’s latest Covid lockdown has virtually paralyzed a city of 6 million that houses much of the country’s electronic information, forcing Apple Inc.’s datacenter operator to take emergency measures to shut out the pandemic.

° From MacVoices Live!: Hours after Apple’s “Far Out” event wrapped, a mega-panel convened on MacVoices Live! to discuss and debate the announcements. The iPhone 14 and its variations were up first as Chuck Joiner, David Ginsburg, Eric Bolden, Derek Miley, Brittany Smith, Web Bixby, Kelly Guimont, Patrice Brend’Amour, and Andrew Orr dug deep into the iPhone 14, with the A16 Bionic Chip, Display Island, and improved camera and stabilization catching their interest.
