Apple’s Phil Schiller named to Illumina’s board of directors

Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, has joined the Illumina board of directors. Illumina is a company devoted to “improving human health by unlocking the power of the genome.”

At Apple, Schiller is a member of Apple’s executive team responsible for the company’s product marketing, developer relations, business marketing, education marketing, international marketing and App Store programs. He has more than 30 years of marketing and management experience, including over 25 at Apple

“Phil’s track record and global experience in bringing world-class products to market will help guide us as we continue to develop innovative new solutions for our customers,” said Francis deSouza, Illumina president and CEO, in a press release. “His vision, integrity and passion are fully aligned with Illumina’s core values.”

Here’s how Illumina describes itself: “Today we are a global leader in genomics – an industry at the intersection of biology and technology. At the most fundamental level, we enable our customers to read and understand genetic variations. We strive to make our solutions increasingly simple, more accessible, and always reliable. As a result, discoveries that were unimaginable even a few years ago are now becoming routine – and are making their way into patient treatment.”
