Apple’s Mac now has 10.4% of the global laptop market

Market research firm TrendForce reports Apple continued the strong shipments of 12-inch laptops in the second quarter, and focused on the new models of MacBook Pro in the third quarter, recording the third quarter shipments of 4.43 million units and an increase of 11.3%. It exceeded ASUS to rank the fourth in the quarter as the number four global manufacturer of laptops.

TrendForce reports that worldwide notebook shipments for this third quarter registered a quarterly increase of 6.8% and a year-on-year increase of 0.9%, reaching 42.69 million units. Apple now has 10.4% of the global laptop market.

HP is in first place with 25.8% market share, followed by Lenovo with 20.1% and Dell with 15.6%. Trailing Apple in the top five are ASUS (8.9%) and Acer (7.7%).

(Note: TrendForce’s estimates only include “traditional” laptops, not tablets such as the iPad Pro.)
