Apple’s head of business for Apple News departs

Liz Schimel, Apple’s head of business for Apple News, has bid adieu to the company. Why? Due to the service’s “struggle to attract paying customers,” according to Bloomberg (even though Apple says Apple News +, its $9.99/month subscription service now has over 100 million active users).

Bloomberg says Apple is seeking to hire a notable name from the publishing world to replace Schimel, who is a veteran media exec who previously served as president of Conde Nast China

In addition to working at Condé Nast, whose magazine titles include Vogue, GQ, and Self, Schimel was an entrepreneur-in-residence at Comcast Ventures and chief digital officer at media conglomerate Meredith Corp. She has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Wharton Business School.
