Apple’s first solar power station in China to begin operations soon

Apple’s 20MW solar power station in Sichuan Province, western China, will begin operations at full capacity “soon,” according to BrightWire.com, a global investmentnewswire, quoting info from the plant’s builder, Zhonghuan Semiconductor. It’s Apple’s first solar power project in China.

The power station connected two megawatts (MW) of its capacity to the national grid in March and the remaining 18MW will also be connected to the grid soon, Zhonghuan Semiconductor said in a filing to the Shenzhen Stock Exchange. Apple will build photovoltaic stations in China through a joint venture with Sichuan Shengtian New Energy Development Co Ltd, according to an April press release of Shentian’s major shareholder, Zhonghuan Semiconductor.

The joint venture will have CNY 76.92 million (USD 12.4 million) in registered capital. Apple will take a 44% stake in the JV and Shengtian will take 56%, the article adds. A subsidiary of Tianjin Zhonghuan is building a 20MW photovoltaic station in Sichuan of southwest China. The station will be jointly owned by Shengtian and Apple.
