Apple will lease more than 40,000 square feet of office space in Bengaluru, India

Apple has agreed to lease more than 40,000 square feet of office space in Bengaluru, India, where the company plans to set up a development center, reports The Economic Times, quoting three unnamed “people familiar with the matter.”

The article says the new facility is at Galleria, office space that belongs to Standard Brick Tile Company in North Bengaluru. The Apple facility will reportedly be spread over two floors and house a “high-end” development center.

In May, Apple announced a new initiative to support engineering talent and accelerate growth in India’s iOS developer community. The company said it would establish an iOS App Design and Development Accelerator in Bengaluru, the home of India’s startup scene.

Tens of thousands of developers in India make apps for iOS, and this initiative will provide additional, specialized support for them, says Apple CEO Tim Cook. Apple’s team will work to inspire and instruct developers on best practices, help them hone their skills and transform the design, quality and performance of their apps on the iOS platform, he adds.
