Apple Watch screen test shows incredible scratch resistance of sapphire glass

UK electronics repair shop iPhonefixed obtained a 38mm sapphire glass display from the Apple Watch and tested the screen for its durability. The team tried to scratch the display covering by rubbing it on a stone wall as well as marking it with a key, coin and abrasive paper. They even pounded it with a hammer and drilled it with a power drill. At the end of their tests, there were no marks or scratches on the screen.

The sapphire screen will be available on the Watch and Watch edition models, with prices starting at $549 for the 38mm Watch. The $349 Watch Sport edition will ship with ION-X Glass, which offers less scratch resistance, but is more shatterproof and impact resistant than its sapphire counterparts.
