Apple has removed the popular messaging and social media apps WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, and Threads from its App Store in China at the request of the Chinese government.
Apple will sell products via live streaming on the Alibaba platform during China’s midyear online shopping festival, reports The South China Morning Post.
The tech giant’s move is timed with China’s annual “618” shopping festival, the second most important e-commerce event in the country after Singles’ Day. The SCMP says that, for the Greater China region, Apple reported revenue of US$17.8 billion in the first quarter, nearly 3% from the year before.
