Apple sued for using song without permission in ‘Amazing Story’ episode

Another day, another lawsuit. As noted by AppleInsider, Apple and its Apple TV+ production partners are being sued over the claim that they used a copyrighted song in its Amazing Stories before getting proper permissions from the rights holder.

The complaint, lodged in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California on Tuesday, claims that Apple wrongfully used “Side Show” by Richie Rich in the second episode of Amazing Stories. According to the lawsuit, music producer and distributor Darrell Jackson (and plaintiff in the case) owns the copyright to the sound recording and musical composition of “Side Show.”

The plaintiff wants an end to the alleged copyright infringement on Apple’s part and an enjoinment on Nakamiche from claiming that they own the rights to “Side Show.” Jackson also wants damages and legal fees.

Created by Steven Spielberg, Amazing Stories was a fantasy, horror, and science fiction television anthology series featuring an all-star roster of guest stars that originally ran on NBC from 1985 to 1987. The series was nominated for 12 Emmy Awards and won five. Apple rebooted it for its streaming service.
