Apple rumored (again) to release a 20.3-inch Mac laptop with a foldable screen

Apple plans to release a 20.3-inch Mac laptop with a foldable screen in three years, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says.

Here’s what he says in a tweet: Recently, I’ve received many inquiries about whether Apple plans to mass-produce the foldable iPhone or iPad in 2025 or 2026. My latest survey indicates that currently, Apple’s only foldable product with a clear development schedule is the 20.3-inch MacBook, expected to enter mass production in 2027.

This isn’t the first rumor of a foldable Mac laptop. A July 2023 report from the Korean site, The Elec said Apple is working on a 20-inch foldable device — apparently, a Mac laptop.

And that article reiterated a February 20203 Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) report — as noted by MacRumors — analyst Ross Young said Apple is considering a 20-inch foldable MacBook. Young said a foldable laptop could form a new product category.

If it arrives, it could be a dual-use product: able to work as a notebook with a full-size on-screen keyboard when folded and as a monitor when unfolded and used with an external keyboard. The foldable could also allow for 4K resolutions or higher at the size Apple is investigating, Young added.

As wild as the idea sounds, Apple has filed for multiple patents that hint at foldable Macs, iPhones, and iPads. Included among them are patent filing 10,579,105 and patent filing number 20190163233
