Apple reportedly interested in TV shows from the Obamas

Former President Barack Obama is in advanced negotiations with Netflix to produce a series of high-profile shows — unless he goes with Apple, reports The New York Times.

Quoting unnamed “people familiar with the Netflix discussions,” the article says that the tech giant, as well as Amazon, have also expressed interest in talking about content deals. According to the NYT, such content from Barack and Michelle Obama could include:

  • Shows the highlight inspirational stories;
  • Shows on topics that dominated Obama’s presidency — health care, voting rights, immigration, foreign policy, climate change — and that have continued to divide a polarized American electorate during President Trump’s time in office;
  • Shows on topics, like nutrition, that Michelle Obama championed in the White House;
  • Documentaries or fictional programming on Netflix that align with the Obama’s beliefs and values.

Upcoming original programming titles from Apple include Amazing Stores, Are You Sleeping, Home, Little America, See, Swagger, an untitled Damien Chazelle drama, an untitled Reese Witherspoon/Jennifer Anniston dreamed, and untitled Ronald D. Moore drama, and an untitled M. Night Shyamalan thriller series.
