Apple removes music Home Sharing in iOS 8.4

Apple earlier this week released iOS 8.4, bringing Apple Music to the company’s iOS devices. Though the update was received favorably due to its Music components and improvements to iBooks, many users noticed that a popular feature — Home Sharing support for music — was missing. This missing music support was first mentioned by Apple Support forum members and later confirmed by Apple on its Home Sharing support page.

Home Sharing uses your home network to share and stream content from your computer’s iTunes library to other computers, iOS devices, or the Apple TV. According to a report by AppleInsider, the sharing of video between devices still works, but music has been disabled.

Our take on the news: Though not confirmed by Apple, this restriction likelly tied to the launch Apple Music and is stipulated in the contracts Apple had to sign with recording companies in order to secure music for its service.
