Apple releases iOS 10.1 with Portrait shooting mode (and also tvOS 10.0.1)

Apple has released a finished version of iOS 10.1, bringing a promised Portrait shooting mode to owners of the iPhone 7 Plus. It also provides various bug fixes.

Portrait mode is a software feature that uses the two lenses of the iPhone 7 Plus to create the look and feel of an image shot with portrait settings on a camera with a telephoto lens. You access portrait mode from within the Camera app simply by swiping left and right in the viewfinder.

The update is a free download, available either through iTunes or over-the-air via the Settings > General > Software Update menu in iOS.

Apple has also posted tvOS 10.0.1 with bug fixes and security improvements. To update your Apple TV.

  • Launch the Settings app.
  • Go to System → Software Updates → Update Software.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts to proceed.
