Apple reduces affiliate commissions for apps and in-app content

Apple today sent out an email to all affiliates, those people who “advertise” apps and other content on websites or in apps in order to earn commissions on each sale. In the past, commissions for all types of content — apps, music, movies, books and TV — have been set at 7%. Now Apple has announced that the commission rate for app and in-app content sales will be dropping to 2.5% effective May 1, 2017.

Whether the change is designed to make more money for Apple or possibly lower Apple’s “take” from apps in the App Store, it’s going to affect organizations like Apple World Today that make a bit of money on every link to the App Store that results in a sale.

Apple also announced that they’re making it easier for people and organizations to become affiliate partners with a new Getting Started Guide
