Apple ranks 32nd on list of companies that excel in human resources

Apple placed 32nd in The Workforce 100 list for 2018. Now in its fifth year, it  recognizes companies that excelled in human resources (HR) over the course of the previous year. To determine which companies make the list, Workforce editors work with researchers from the Human Capital Media Research and Advisory Group, the publication’s research arm.

The research team created a model to sift through publicly available data on HR performance. To give employees more of a say in the rankings, it asked recruiting and job-review website Glassdoor to provide data on what workers are saying about the companies that made our list. That information was combined with the public data available to create our 2018 Workforce 100 list.

Apple had a performance index of 7.696 (out of 10). That compares to a performance index of 9.575 for Salesforce.com, which topped The Workforce 100 list.

Deirdre O’Brien, the company’s vice president of People, was listed as the top ranking HR person at the company. A 30-year Apple veteran, O’Brien leads all HR functions, including talent development, recruiting, benefits, compensation and business support, as well as overseeing Apple University.

Apple’s number 32 ranking is a major drop for the company. Last year it was number 10 on the list with a performance index of 8.364.
