Apple purportedly has two prototypes of a foldable iPhone in testing

The Sellers Group (that’s me) thinks that, while Apple may have such prototypes, we’re not going to see a foldable iPhone anytime soon. I think a curved iPhone is more likely.

However, The Information says the tech giant is building prototypes of at least two iPhones that fold widthwise like a clamshell. The article says that Apple has approached at least one manufacturer concerning components related to two foldable smartphones, but the company could cancel the project at any time if an “iPhone Fold” didn’t meet its standards.

I think foldable smartphones are a gimmick that will pass. What’s more, as noted by Screenrant in a 2022 report, foldable screens are difficult to produce and the hinges are prone to failure, as demonstrated by such high-profile manufacturers as Samsung and Motorola that struggled and failed on their first attempts.
