Apple Pay now supported by Canada’s ‘Big Five’ banks

Apple Pay users in Canada have three more banking options now that Apple has rolled out support for the country’s remaining “Big Five” banks (BMO, TD and Scotiabank), according to The Toronto Star.

In May Apple announced had inked deals with the big banks, as well as Interac and credit card companies to bring the digital payment service to Canada. CIBC and RBC launched the app May 10, the day the announcement was made, but the rest of the banks said they’d be ready to launch in June.

As of today, BMO, TD and Scotiabank, join the others. All of the Big Five banks, as well as Alberta-based ATB and Canadian Tire are also launching in-app payments for credit cards, which will allow users to make online payments to retailers on their iPads and iPhones using apps, notes The Toronto Star.

Six countries now have Apple Pay support: Canada, the U.S., Australia, china, and Singapore. Apple has hinted that Spain and Hong Kong are also in line to get Apple Pay at some point this year (Spain currently supports it for Amex only). CEO Tim Cook also recently spoke about plans to bring the mobile payment system to India, while France, Japan and Brazil are also expected to add Apple Pay support in the near future.
