Apple Pay continues to dominate contactless pay; Ticketmaster to offer Wallet passes

There’s a lot going on behind the scenes with Apple’s contactless pay system Apple Pay and the associated Wallet app. Platform executive Jennifer Bailey attended the Money 20/20 conference yesterday, where she noted that Apple Pay is now in 20 countries around the world with about 4,000 card issuers. In those countries, Apple Pay accounts for 90 percent of mobile contactless payments.

Bailey also announced that US grocery store giant Albertsons Companies is in the process of deploying Apple Pay to 2,300 stores including all Safeway branches. Dick’s Sporting Goods now takes Apple Pay at 675 locations, and high-end retailer Saks Fifth Avenue is starting to roll out Apple Pay.

Ticketmaster is planning to support Wallet passes at all locations, which lets customers store tickets on iPhone or Apple Watch. The digital tickets can be scanned when entering a venue, making paper tickets a thing of the past for concerts, sporting events, and more.
