Apple may be planning a Mac-related launch event next week

Apple is likely planning a Mac-related launch event at the end of the month, according to a tweet by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

Apple’s iMacs and MacBook Pros are in short supply ahead of planned updates next week, he said in his latest “Power On” newsletter. This contradicts some reports that we wouldn’t see any new Macs this year.

The all-in-one is way overdue for an update. Apple last updated the iMac in April 2021, introducing a version of its iconic all-in-one computer with an M1 chip. Fans of the iMac have waited more than 900 days since the last model debuted.

The question is whether the all-in-one will be updated with M2 and M2 Pro processors, as some rumors have said — or if it will include an M3 chip as most of us hope.

Gurman also thinks Apple may release updated 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros. I’m a bit skeptical of this. If Apple does release an iMac with a M3 processor, I’d expect a 13-inch MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro with the chip rather than revamped high-end Mac laptops;

The Sellers Research Group (that’s me) thinks we won’t see new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros until early 2024 (something Gurman has previously forecast). At that time, I’d expect them to pack M3 Pro and M3 Max processors.

However, an October 5 DigiTimes report claimedApple will release new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with more power-efficient mini-LED displays this year.
