Apple makes the AI STOXX Global Artificial Intelligence Index

German stock exchange operator Deutsche Boerse has launched the AI STOXX Global Artificial Intelligence Index, which uses an algorithm to select 200 companies that are early AI innovators. Not surprisingly, Apple is on the list.

Deutsche Boerse says it’s found a way to identify AI-related patent filings to select the 200 companies that compose the index. The patents are an early indicator of AI innovators and the index, the first of its kind, will help index-tracking funds interested in companies focused on artificial intelligence, the stock exchange operator added.

Apple has applied for multiple patents regarding AR apps and systems, including a head-mounted display. The tech giant is also heavily promoting its ARKit, which was introduced at the 2017 Worldwide Developer Conference. It allows developers to tap into the latest computer vision technologies to build detailed virtual content on top of real-world scenes for interactive gaming, immersive shopping experiences, industrial design and more.
