Apple design guru, Jony Ive, receives Stephen Hawking Fellowship

Apple Chief Design Officer Jony Ive has been awarded the Cambridge Union Society’s Stephen Hawking Fellowship. He was announced as the second person to receive the honor created in 2017 in partnership with its namesake, according to Variety.

The fellowship, created by the Cambridge Union Society in partnership with Professor Stephen Hawking, is an honorary scholarship to recognize recipients’ contributions to the STEM fields and social discourse. Ive holds over 5,000 patents

In the announcement, Charles Connor, Cambridge Union Society President for Michaelmas 2018, described Ive as one of the “most influential individuals in modern technology.” According to Variety, Connor speculated that Ive’s lecture in Michaelmas term would include “reflection on his career, split with a more general reflection on technology and design as a whole.”
