Apple Daily Report for June 28, 2017

The AWT News Update is on hiatus today while my compadre, Steve, deals with some family issues. In its place, I’ll offer a text-only (no podcast) summary of breaking stories with a tip o’ my hat to my former website, Apple Daily Report.

Honda has announced support for Apple’s CarPlay for the the Fit hatchback line via 2018 models. They roll out next month. Both CarPlay and Android Auto will be available on Sport, EX, and EX-L trims of the car.

Apple has released the fifth developer betas of iOS 10.3.3 and macOS 10.12.6. Developers can download the beta through the Apple Developer Center or the Software Update mechanism in the App Store.

Qualcomm is taking fingerprint scanners below the surface. You can expect to start seeing fingerprint sensors underneath phone displays next year, the chipmaker said at Mobile World Congress Shanghai.

The Trump administration is threatening to expand its “laptop ban” to all airlines that don’t improve security. Airlines must adhere to new security rules, or passengers may not be able to bring large devices aboard.

To celebrate Canada Day and the country’s 150th anniversary taking place July 1st this weekend, Apple today released a new shot on iPhone campaign that includes photos and a short film titled “A Portrait of Canada.”
