Apple Daily Report for August 28, 2017

The AWT News Update is on hiatus while my compadre, Steve, is on a road trip. In its place, I’ll offer a text-only (no podcast) summary of breaking stories with a tip o’ my hat to my former website, Apple Daily Report.

According to the “Today at Apple” website, the tech giant invites you to “join us for Star Wars–themed sessions at Apple stores across the galaxy” to celebrate Force Friday II on Friday, Sept. 1.  Attendees will learn how to code with BB-8, explore how to create your own Star Wars movie trailer, and more.

Samsung says it expects to invest $7 billion over the next three years to expand its NAND memory chip production in China’s northwestern city of Xi’an. I suspect part of this move is to help pump out future iPhones.

iHelp BR has found a few code strings and icons within the iOS 11 developer beta that reference new workouts for Apple’s Workout app. These include: basketball, bowling, climbing, cricket, cross-country skiing, curling, dance, equestrian sports, fencing, fishing, golf, gymnastics, jump rope, pilates, skating, surfing, and more.

Apple has released the eighth developer betas of macOS High Sierra, iOS 11, tvOS 11 and watchOS 4. They can be downloaded through the Apple Developer Center or through the Software Update mechanism in the Mac App Store.

Apple is now selling Beats Solo 3, Powerbeats 3 Wireless earphones, and the Beats Pill+ speaker in a new assortment of colors called the “Beats Neighborhood Collection.”
