Apple Daily Report: Apple bid for new trial in VirnetX denied (and more news)

A federal judge has denied Apple’s motion for a new trial in a long-running patent case leveled by non-practicing entity VirnetX, a suit that left the tech giant owing $502.6 million. 

Apple has hit another new all-time closing high of $227.63 on Aug. 31. This is the latest of several times this year Apple has broken its all-time high valuation.

iPhone and iPad users who have installed the current iOS 12 beta are being plagued with a continual popup that suggests a new iOS update is available when it’s not, according to MacRumors. Affected users are seeing the following message: “A new iOS update is now available. Please update from the iOS 12 beta.” The problem is users receiving this message are running the most recent version of iOS and there is no additional software to update to. 

The LGBTQ-friendly Apple Watch face is prevented by code from being accessed in Russia by watchOS 5.

Apple has released the twelfth developer beta of iOS 12 and the tenth developer betas of watchOS 5 and tvOS 12. Registered developers can download the betas via Apple’s developer portal. Or they can be downloaded over-the-air once the proper configuration profile has been installed from the Developer Center.

On Thursday, California’s State Assembly voted 58-17 on a California privacy law called S.B. 822. It would implement the strongest net neutrality provisions in the U.S.
