Apple Daily Report: Apple adds more MacBook Airs to vintage and obsolete products list (and more news)

Since Steve and I can’t cover everything, at the end of each week day, we’ll offer this wrap-up of news items you should check out.

Apple will add 11-inch and 13-inch MacBook Air models released in Mid 2012 to its vintage and obsolete products list on Aug. 31, according to an internal document distributed to Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers and obtained by MacRumors.

According to the latest research from the Counterpoint Smartphone Channel Share Tracker service, the share of online smartphone channels grew to 13% of total US smartphone sales in quarter two (Q2) of 2018 compared to 12% in Q1 2018. However, total online volumes dropped 9% QoQ due to a weak Q2 sales cycle. In fact, total sales in H1 2018 are down 12% compared to 2017.

In keeping with previous years’ launch timing, the upgrades to iOS and macOS are expected to roll out to the public on Sept. 18 and 25, respectively, per Computerworld.

President Donald Trump stepped up attacks (https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-warns-tech-giants-stepping-attacks-claiming-bias-200402056.html) on big tech firms Tuesday, warning Facebook, Google and Twitter to be “careful,” hours after slamming what he called “rigged” Internet search results.

Last week Apple CEO Tim Cook was granted 560,000 vested restricted stock, split between time- and performance-based award. A subsequent selloff of the bonus gained nearly $58 million.
