Apple applies for two more patents for water resistant devices

Apple has applied for two more patents involving water resistant improvements for its various devices — the iPhone being the most obvious candidate for such enhancements.

Patent filing 2018019659 is for a coating that is applied to an electronic device in locations that may otherwise allow liquid ingress into the electronic device. For example, the coating may cover a channel, or other opening, that leads to an internal volume of the electronic device.

Patent filing 20180110143 is for an electronic device with a liquid-resistant SIM tray. It involves modifications designed to prevent liquid ingress into an opening (or openings) of the device is disclosed. For example, the electronic device could include a SIM tray having a sealing element designed to provide a seal at an opening that receives the SIM tray.

Of course, Apple files for — and is granted — lots of patents by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. Many are for inventions that never see the light of day. However, you never can tell which ones will materialize in a real product.
