App releases, updates announced Feb. 14-19

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they deserve mention. Here are this week’s picks.

macOS

° Bare Bones Software has released BBEdit 14.1 (pictured), an update to its professional strength text and code editor. The upgrade adds support for Shortcuts on the Mac, as well as an expanded notes system and a new image viewer.

BBEdit is available directly from Bare Bones Software or by subscription on the Mac App Store. It requires macOS 14.2 or later.

° Edison Mail for Mac has added support for M1 Macs. The app is designed to help users reduce email volume and enjoy a cleaner inbox with features like unified inbox, one-tap Unsubscribe, Block spy pixels and unwanted senders, Dark Mode, and more.

You can download Edison Mail at the Mac App Store. It requires macOS 10.12 or later.

° Cisdem has upgraded Mac DVD Burner to version 6.5.1. It’s a multimedia tool that can burn videos to DVDs with menu, subtitle and background music.

Version 6.5.1fixes some bugs and optimizes the video pixel ratio editing issue. Cisdem DVD Burner requires macOS 10.12 or later and costs US$49.99 for a single-user license. A demo is available for download.

iOS/iPadOS

° The Omni Group has shipped updates to all of itsapps for iPhone and iPad, bringing Omni Automation support in Shortcuts to all of our apps.

You can find out more on the Shortcuts Action section of the Omni Automation site. There’s general information, tutorials, examples to look at (or use) right away, and, of course, related links. Also, as The Omni Group’s blog post mentions, bug fixes make these recommended updates.

° Star Stable Entertainment has launched the mobile version of its flagship game Star Stable Online. It’s now available in the Apple App Store.

The mobile version brings cross-play to millions of players, meaning all the elements of the desktop version of Star Stable Online can now be enjoyed on mobiles and tablets.

Here’s how the game is described: Designed to give players the opportunity to engage their independent, creative and adventurous powers, the Star Stable Online game sees players go on quests in an open world populated by other riders. In this world a colorful cast of characters bring to life in-game events such as seasonal celebrtaions, races, and challenges.

° Vivid Knight is now available on the App Store for US$10.99. It’s a rogue-like game in which the key is party building, in which players fight by combining the abilities of their knights, who have been turned into jewels by a black witch.
