Another rumor says to expect a periscope lens in the iPhone 15

Forget this year’s iPhone 14; let’s look even further down the line. In a report seen by 9to5Mac, analyst Jeff Pu claims that the iPhone 15 Pro models will feature a periscope lens with a 5x optical zoom.

He says the tech giant is in negotiations with Lante Optics, which is expected to be the main supplier of the periscope lenses to be used in the 2023 iPhones. The report claims that Apple has already received component samples and a final decision should be made by May.

This echoes a previous prediction by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Kuo says the tech giant plans to add a 48-megapixel camera lens to the iPhone 14 this year, followed by a periscope lens in 2023.

Periscope lenses allow for greater optical zoom by bouncing light inside the phone off a mirror before passing it through another smaller lens which can be moved closer and further away from the sensor, amplifying the light even more.
