The AirTag 2 will likely go to mass production in the fourth quarter of 2024 and won’t be available until 2025, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo tweets.
“I believe that spatial computing is a new ecosystem that Apple wants to build, using Vision Pro as the core to integrate other devices, including the AirTag 2,” he says. “The AirTag, which has not received much attention, has gradually grown in shipments since its release. Shipment estimations of AirTag reach about 20 million and 35 million units in 2021 & 2022, respectively.”
I’m not sure what he means that the AirTag will be part of a “spatial computing system.” The Vision Pro is, I think, too big to be easily lost.
As for an AirTag 2, there are no clues as to what it might entail. However, it will likely include an upgrade from the current model’s U1 chip to a U2 version.
