Analyst: Apple Watch may be repositioned to integrate with the Vision Pro

Future Apple Watch concept

The 2024 Apple Watch probably won’t have “significant innovative experiences,” though Apple may promote it as an accessory for the upcoming Vision Pro, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says in a new Medium post.

“The Apple Watch is a classic example of a product that succeeded through repositioning. However, based on current shipment momentum, it may need to be repositioned again if there’s an unfortunate year-over-year decline again in 2024,” he writes. “By integrating Vision Pro with the Apple Watch, I believe it can create an unparalleled and innovative health management experience to drive shipment momentum for both products further.”

Kuo predicts that Apple Watch shipments in 2023 will decline approximately 15% year-over-year to 36–38 million units. What’s more, contrary to some rumors, he doesn’t think next year’s smartwatch will sport either the anticipated blood glucose monitoring feature or a micro-LED display. He thinks those features may not appear until 2025 (or later) and 2025/2026, respectively.
