Analyst: ‘Apple Tags’ coming in quarter two or three

In a note to clients — as noted by MacRumors — analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says Shanghai-based manufacturing company Universal Scientific Industrial will begin supplying the system-in-package for Apple’s “Apple Tags” product that will arrive in the second  or third quarter of the year. He thinks shipments will reach tens of millions of units by the end of the year.

The “Apple Tag” is expected to be a Tile competitor. The Tile is a tiny Bluetooth tracker and app combo. After you have purchased the hardware, download the app to iOS device, and pair your Tile to your device. Once your device is paired use your app to find your item; just listen for the ring. Based on Kuo’s prediction, you could attach Apple’s circular alternative to iPhones, iPads, Apple TV remotes, keys, wallets, etc, to help track down missing items.

Chances Kuo is right, per the Sellers Research Group (that’s me): 100%. The Apple Tags were expected to debut last fall. I’m not sure why they were delayed, but I think we’ll see ‘em soon.
