An iMac with Retina 8K display would cost over $5,000

There have been rumors of an iMac with Retina 8K display. It’s probably coming, but don’t look for it until 2020. And if it came out now, most of us couldn’t afford it.

How do I know? Dell has announced a 31.5-inch 8K monitor with a 279 PPI pixel density and 7680×4320 resolution that tops the Retina display of the iMac with 5K display, which has 5120 x 2880 resolution and 217 PPI . However, the monitor (pictured) will set you back a cool $4,999.

That said, I still want an iMac with a 31.5-inch display. Even if it’s only a “measly”  5K display.

As for 8K televisions, Juniper Research forecasts that 8K smart TV shipments will grow more than threefold between 2020 and 2021, to reach over 400,000 per annum by the end of the forecast period. There are few models currently on the market. And they’re pricey: LG’s model is 98 inches and costs $133,000.
