A look at Pelican’s new cases for 2019 iPhones

Pelican Products has added four new cases for the iPhone. As I often say in these reviews, there’s little new under the sun in smartphone cases, but Pelican’s products are well made, cost effective, and reliable. I’ve tested the cases with an iPhone 11 Pro Max.

The Pelican Rogue Phone Case ($30) boasts a new waffle-style casing that absorbs, redirects and disperses the force of impact when you drop your iPhone. I find the waffle design also improves grip-ability to keep the Apple smartphone from slipping out of my hand.

It’s tested to military specifications to survive multiple drops. The flexible rubber is tough enough that it won’t easily tear, pierce or scratch. As I always point out in these reviews, I’m not going to deliberately drop my pricey smartphone to test out the military specs.

The Rogue is compatible with the iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro Max. It’s available in black and taupe (a cross between brown and gray); I prefer the black.

The Pelican Mogul Phone Case ($40) is durable thanks to the flexible rubber build that goes back-to-back with protective polycarbonate that creates double lines of defense against impacts, scratches and shatters. The Pelican Mogul Phone Case features clean lines and a soft-touch overmold that allows for a slim design.

The Mogul is even more grippable than the Rogue. Its rubber design makes it easy to hold and helps prevent it from slipping off surfaces.

It’s available for the iPhone11 Pro Max in transparent purple/silver. At least that’s how Pelican describes the color. It looks pink to me.

The Traveler Phone Case ($49.99) is my favorite of the new Pelican cases. Though it has a lightweight, streamlined design, it’s tougher than it looks. It boasts a reinforced three-layer construction and a flexible interior bumper that absorbs the force of impact. The fortified polycarbonate and material shell protects phone from damage.

“Grip Stitching” around every edge makes it very comfortable and extremely (here’s that word again) grippable. It’s compatible with the iPhone® 11 Pro, iPhone® 11, iPhone 11 Pro Max and is available in black and taupe.
