Apple Watch sales grow 6% year-over-year in quarter two

over a fifth (22.5%) of the world's Internet users now own a smartwatch, amounting to a total of 1.2 billion people globally — a 9% rise from the year before.

According to the latest Canalys estimates, global wearable band shipments were up 2.0% in the second quarter of 2022 at 41.7 million units, a return to growth after a decline of 3.7% in quarter one. Apple continued to dominate the market with its Apple Watch.

Canalys says that basic watches and smartwatches, categorized under wristwatches, grew 46.6% and 9.3%, respectively. Apple continues to dominate the global wristwatch market with a 26% market share.

Apple sold 8.4 million smartwatches in the second quarter of 2022. That compares with sales of 7.9 million Apple Watches in quarter one of 2021 for annual growth of 6%.

We’ll almost certainly see new Apple Watches announced at today’s “Far out” event. As far as other smartwatch makers, in quarter two, Samsung overtook Huawei with solid growth of 58%, shipping 2.8 million smartwatches.
