As most rumors have said, Apple will launch its long-rumored augmented reality/mixed reality headset next year, according to Korea IT News. The article says production of its parts — which the article refers to as an “extended reality” device — has already begun.

Korea IT News adds that Apple has already started development of the second generation of “Apple Glasses” (my term, not Apple’s or Korea IT News) and that it will arrive in 2024.

The report says that the first gen device will be specialized for entertainment and games. The article says that it’s expected will test the  metaverse experience as preparation for the second gen device.

The second version of “Apple Glasses” is expected to be lighter than the first version and offer the ability to make and receive phone calls. Korea IT News’ report aligns closely with the predictions of Ming-Chi Kuo in his Medium blog.

About Apple Glasses

When it comes to “Apple Glasses,” the rumors abound. It will be a head-mounted display. Or may have a design like “normal” glasses. Or it may be eventually be available in both. The Apple Glasses may or may not have to be tethered to an iPhone to work. Other rumors say that Apple Glasses could have a custom-build Apple chip and a dedicated operating system dubbed “rOS” for “reality operating system.”
